According to our 2023 Disruptive Trends Report, only 20% of respondents rated ‘driving environmental and social sustainability initiatives’ as one of their top 3 business goals, a 7% reduction from 2022. And yet, arguably, ‘driving environmental and social sustainability’ should go hand in hand with ‘improving operational efficiency’, the top business priority from the same survey.

Every day we see new and exciting examples of the role technology can play in tackling key environmental issues. Many experts highlight the potential of disruptive technologies, such as AI, big data analytics and automation in accelerating the race to solve the climate crisis. 

AI tools have the potential to gather and interpret large and complex datasets, enabling a more data-driven approach to combating carbon emissions. Automation tools can also be used in a variety of areas to drive sustainability and improve ESG performance, from optimising the supply chain to decreasing energy usage. And crucially these technologies when deployed alongside big data analytics, give companies the data they need to measure the impact of their environmental strategy at every stage.
